The Tree Care Industry Association
(formerly the National Arborist Association) has a variety of business
management offerings including the Business Management Academy (BMA)
which focuses on five (5) main business management areas, including:
Accounting/Finance, Human Resources/Personnel, Leadership/Management,
Marketing/Sales/Customer Service and Operations/General Management.,
Seminars/Workshops, Business Management FAQ's and Management Guidelines.
The Southern Urban Forestry
Associates has a variety of business management products available
for purchase on their website including software and manuals.
The
State Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards publishes
a quarterly newsletter. Several local Boards including Baltimore
City, Baltimore, Calvert and Frederick Counties, publish their own
local newsletters to landowners. The Anne Arundel County Board sponsors
a bi-weekly "Tree Talk" column in The Capital to stimulate
public interest in trees and forests within the county.

Guide To Maryland Regulation of Forestry and Related Practices
- This Guide tracks the separate parts, and phases, of all forestry-related
industries. Part I addresses the harvest, manufacture and sale of
wood products. It includes a discussion of general harvesting requirements,
and the rules applicable to harvests in special areas, such as non-tidal
wetlands. Part II discusses the use of licensed professionals in
the harvest planning process, i.e., licensed foresters and qualified
professionals. Part III identifies the requirements for the care
and treatment of trees, e.g., use of a licensed tree expert. Finally,
Part IV identifies the general requirements for doing business in
Maryland, including financial assistance and tax benefits.
International Society
of Arboriculture members are kept abreast of timely information
and happenings in the tree care industry through two significant
publications: Arborist News and the Journal
of Arboriculture.
Tree Care Industry Magazine
- The official publication of the Tree Care Industry Association.
It is packed with articles from the most knowledgeable sources
in the industry on soil biology, line-clearance trends, safety
and training issues, transplanting tips, latest pruning practices,
new products and equipment, rigging techniques, tree chemistry
and real life "From the Field" experiences. Subscriptions
are free to U.S. based companies, individuals may purchase a subscription
for $30 per year.
American Society of
Consulting Arborists has a wealth of available books for purchase
on topics such as Guide to Report Writing for Consulting
Arborists and Arboriculture & the Law.
The Southern Urban Forestry
Associates has a variety of articles on their website including:
Tree Hazard Inspection, Tree Care Calendar, Tree Fertilization
and Tree Appraisals.
The UMass Extension
has a variety of newsletters and CD Roms available for purchase
on their website. Some topics are: Turfgrass Insects of the

American Forests Magazine
- The quarterly magazine of trees and forests. For more than a
century, American Forests has fostered an appreciation for trees
and forests and offered a responsible science-based discussion
of the trends, issues, policies, and management of America's forest
resources. The magazine is free with a $25 membership to the American
Forests organization.
The Tree Care Industry Association (formerly the National Arborist Association)
holds an annual conference as well as regional workshops.
The American Society
of Consulting Arborists holds an annual conference. Those who
should attend are:
