Join us for the 20th DELMARVA FORESTRY SEMINAR on Saturday, January 12th, 2008 at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, with an additional field tour on January 11th. The annual Seminar aims to stimulate excitement about forest stewardship and give forest landowners the up-to-date knowledge and skills they need to improve their management.
Open to all forest landowners, businesses and others who have an interest in managing forestland on the Delmarva Peninsula, this Seminar has two components: a field tour on Friday the 11th, and classroom sessions on Saturday the 12th. Tentative stops on the field tour include a property with Christmas trees, a loblolly pine harvest, and an innovative stream restoration project; Chino Farms for examples of quail management and riparian buffer planting; Millington Wildlife Management Area for examples of invasive species management; and a visit to a local saw mill. The tour will run from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the fee is $20, including lunch.
The classroom sessions will allow participants to choose from three tracks (Management, Forest Health, and Wildlife) in each of four concurrent sessions. Opening and closing sessions will focus on the importance of today’s children for tomorrow’s forests, and the benefits of taking an active stewardship role in your forest’s future.
The Seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
Early registration is $35.00/person, which covers a soup & sandwich lunch, two refreshment breaks, and instruction materials. After January 4th, registration fee will be $40.00/person. The 20th DELMARVA FORESTRY SEMINAR is sponsored by the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension and University of Delaware Cooperation Extension-Renewable Resources Program, in cooperation with numerous Delaware and Maryland agencies and organizations interested in providing forestry education.
